In my 180l tank ive had an outbreak of ich, i have removed the carbon from my filter, making a mess i the process. I am using esha exit, my question is do i have to keep the carbon in water for the 3 days? and is this a good treatment?

I'm no expert, but from what I can gather a lot of people turn up the temp in the tank and add a lil bit of aquarium salt

I have tried the bk white spot treatment for about 6 weeks without sucess so i slowly increased the temp to 31 degrees C its been two weeks now and theres no sign of any whitespot yaay! i read that the ich can not reproduce at this temperature dunno how true this is but seems to have worked

I would throw the carbon away and replace it with new once the treatment has finished. It will then remove the medication from the tank. Then I'd throw that carbon away as it will be full of medication and if it was me I wouldn't bother putting any more in. I only ever use carbon for removing medication after treatment has finished, I don't use it otherwise.

should i carry the treatment on for the 3 days it states on the leaflet or longer, and should i feed my fish as normal? thanks

Does it say to treat for only 3 days? I haven't used that make but others I've used say to treat for longer, often things like on day 1, 2, 3 and 6. If it definitely says just 3, then wait a few days longer, do a big water change then add some new carbon.

Just to make sure - have you increased the temp, and does the med say to do this? The parasite's lifecycle is faster at higher temps, and if the instructions say to increase the temp, they may have factored this in to the treatment duration. If the fishkeeper doesn't increase the temp, 3 days might not be long enough.

yea it says to treat for 3 days and if there is still no improvement carry on with half the dosage. Is there any point in doing water changes during the treatment, as the meds would just be taken back out? I have increaced the temp to 28c. Do I feed the fish as normal during the treatment? Thankyou.

You only need to do water changes during treatment if you have ammonia and/or nitrite in the water. If you do need to do a water change because of this, do it first then add the med after you've refilled.

I've always fed the fish as normal on the occassions I've had whitespot (unquarantined new fish!). Three days does seems a short time for treatment, but if that's what the instructions say, I'd follow them.
Don't forget that just because the spots disappear, it doesn't mean the infection is gone. That's just the first stage over. The second stage is where the parasite has fallen off the fish and multiplies within its shell. The third stage is where the 'baby' parasites emerge from the shell and go looking for a fish to infect. The parasite can only be killed in the free swimming stage; the shell protects it from medication in stage 1 (on the fish) and stage 2 (lying on the bottom of the tank)

I have finished the treatment and the main fish affected [uaru]
has lost all the spots on him, but now he is swimming as if he has no balance. Any idea why this is? And what to do.
Thankyou
