I have set up a new tank, reared a White Cloud Minnow from an egg that came in on a plant which I bought, got 5 Harlequins 10 days ago and got 5 Pentazona Barbs on Saturday.

When I feed flakes the Harlequins all dive for the food and eat it before the other fish get a chance to eat. Should I put some cucumber in the bottom of the tank which the other fish might get a chance to eat? If so, how do I get the cucumber to stay on the bottom of the tank? If not, what should I do?

Mick.

U can cut it in a slice and put a metal spoon throu it. It will sink but dont keep it more than 24/h in your tank because will effect the quality of the water and make it polluted.

Or you could poke a whole through the cucumber and tie fishing line through it and attach it to one of your plants -or- you could tie it around an aquarium rock or marble and sink it to the bottom.

:fish:

while the above is true cucmber is not going to be good as the only diet of thses fish, try looking for some sinking food such as tetra prima to feed alongside your flake

Thanks for this will get some tomorrow. Tried the cucumber last night but they didn't seem to keen

The next time you have peas with a meal, let one cool down, take it's shell off, squash it a bit then drop it into the tank. And stand well back.

my fish dont eat cucumber when i put it in, perhaps its not ripe enough or something
i have yoyo loaches, bristlnose plecs, gourami, angelfish.... no one touches it

they eat peas though, but they dont seem to like the peas as much as the normal food which is a little surprising to me. maybe they only really go nuts foor the live food

most of my fish eat peas, but fresh though not cooked. just skin em and pop em in. lol watching a gurami trying to control a pea on gravel is a howl, looks like it is playing tiddly winks!!! still my crew seem to eat anything, cucumber, chicken and carrots to mention just a few.
