hi

i was told to give my plec some cucumber. i have added the cucumber to the tank and its just floating around the top of the tank with the plec paying no attention to it.
how long do i leave it in the tank before it start to screw up my water? when is the plec likley to eat it?

thanks

cucumber doesn't sink....you'll need to attach it to something heavier otherwise the plec is unlikely to go for it.

also, cucumber lacks any real nutritional value. Courgette is a better choice or a whole host of other veg.

exactly what plec do you have?

i must be honest i have no idea what plec it is, its about 10 inch long and seems to be a dirty brown with a white belly.
what other veg would be good?

can you get a picture up?

someone on here should be able to identify it, but I'm already guessing it's a common.

i use a old stainless steel teaspoon to make them sink

You can buy stainless steel scews quite cheaply on ebay that you corkscrew into courgette which will keep it on the bottom of the tank where the plec will be feeding as they are bottom dwellers. A 10 inch plec is going to eat a lot so I hope you are providing plenty of food. They need plenty of fresh veg - mainly courgette but mine also like sweet potato & sweet peppers. You will also need to provide algae wafers and some frozen 'live foods' to keep them healthy. You can leave the veg chunks in - they will be consumed fully within 24 hors - plecs are very hungry and will eat everything before it has a chance to go bad!

Im hoping you have a big tank for a fish that size!
