my friend is trying to breed a CT with a VT he just bought them both a few days ago {about 5 days} and is trying to breed them already he has no previous experience on breeding bettas he wants to try it I told him he should gather alot of info first and start conditioning them but like a weirdo he put them both together right the day after he bought them in a 10 gal tank he says the male (CT) flares but the female (VT) just swims away the male has a good sized BN but the female shows no intrest. he says hes been feeding them brine shrimp for the 5 days 3 Xs a day. WHAT DO YOU THINK CAN HE DO IT? I SAY HE CAN'T

I think he'll end up with two dead bettas, or if they do spawn, a bunch of dead fry. He needs to slow down and read, A LOT! He obviously has none of the equipment ready to handle a bunch of baby fry. It takes at least two weeks just to condition the parents.

I feel bad for his bettas, and if my friend did that...I would take them away from him/her.

If the female isn't looking good, it's a pretty much a good sign she won't like the male unless she's properly conditioned and maybe even not then, yet another reason not to breed petshop bettas - no breeding drive!

This is someone who obviously has no interest in the welfare of his fish. His behavior is extremely selfish and just plain wrong. :(

I'm involved in animal rescue..... learning the hard way is fine unless it's at the expense of another living being..... :/

A lot of times you can get away with only conditioning for about that long IF the fish come from a good breeder (who fed them well and kept their water clean) and didn't have a very stressful shipping time. Since he got those fish from a pet store... they really shouldn't be bred anyway. But since he insists, they should be conditioned for a few weeks at least. And CT x VT is a bad cross.
