i only thourt of the coconut shell cause i know it is used for plants but wasnt very sure about in an aquarium thou it has nothing added to it it just crushed coconut shell and thourt maybe it would work

Coconut shell is used as mulch for plants, so this wouldnt really work with aquatic plants. It might help in reducing the compaction with sand ?? But I've never heard of it being used in aquaria.
