How can regular tropical flakes have 49% Crude Protein, but my frozen Beef Heart only has about 5% crude protein? Does that make sense? Can somebody please explain crude protein to me and how it works because i would think that it would be obvious that beef heart has much more protein than flake food, but I guess I'm wrong.

Any frozen food contains water, dry flake does not. A good percentage of frozen beefheart will be water.

So if I'm trying to give a food with alot of protein am i better off just skipping the beefheart and feeding only flakes now?

Subtract the water or moisture content from both, recalculate protein percentages. Any beefheart I've seen sold in shops is fatty grisly junk, if you plan on feeding beefheart you are best off grinding & freezing your own.

Also, 'crude' protein is another way of saying 'total' protein, so every protenious aubstance in the products that are used to make that food, not all of it will be accessible/digestable either, so it isn't a measure of 'total accessible' protein.

I don't really know how to explain but wouldn't it also have something to do with the amounts you give?

Flake is pretty thin and crumbly although containing 49%, where as beefheart is more substancial? If you get what I mean
