Hi all

I might be getting a crowntail tomorrow as a shop that owes me some credit has had some delivered and i get first dibs lol. :yahoo: dont worry i will take my camera for photos :shifty:

I have had Veiltails before which i found easy to take care of but i was wondering do crowntails need any other requirements i know not to keep them with fin nippers or aggressive fish (learnt that the hard way ages go :( ) but is there anything else i need to take into consideration. -_-

Also i might breed him if i get a good colour as i have only ever bred livebearers and cory cats just to let you know lol :good:

Cheers guys and gals for any help and advise :good:

OMG! how do we report this post??!?!?! LOL

ah, that'd be the report button?! lol. Reported.

Back on topic - are you gonna keep him in a community? Be very careful if you do!

Thank god for that lol.

No he will be in a tank by himself sharing it with either a snail or some ottos as company will post piccies once he is happy in his new home lol.

When you keep a betta in a community tank just make sure it is with fish that are peaceful. Also lots of plants and hiding places are good. He should be fine just keep an eye on him to make sure all the fish get along and no one is getting picked on.

I have had a few crown-tails. I find them to be a bit more feisty then the others. My one Crown tail I have now would rather flare and dance then build a nest. He is the only male I have had that will not build a nest. Weird little guy but lots of fun to watch him get all worked up when I come near him.

 thank god someone has sorted this thread out. I hope no one saw the photos that were under the age of 16 or even 18, disgusting.

I did and so did my mum, ouch! I was just laughing about it on the phone with a friend... "So I'm halfway through reporting this to the mods, right, and mum walks in and..."

A lot of people say crowntails need softer water. I'm not sure why that would be because they are the same species, but a lot of inbreeding was necessary to create the strain (as with most betta fin types, this strain is just more recent so you notice the effects more). Maybe the combtails they used to create it preferred soft water and this trait was bred in. I can't tell you whether that one is a myth or accurate because I keep everything in soft water.

Well people i got one lol but the store only had two crowntails in which was rather a disapointment the rest were VT's but some brilliantly coloured VT's though sadly didnt get any photos of them wish i had though.

I ended up with a male crowntail by himself with a couple of ottos plus a little female that has gone into my community and is now strutting around as if she owns the place which is very funny he on the other hand is a right little devil he flares at nearly everything he stares you down which is very funny to watch and i think he has a taste for blood as i put my finger in to move a piece of floating debris and he come over and bit me with a hell of a lot of force so much so that i thought he drew blood  lol.

I will post pics asap once my computer downstairs has stopped messing around and lets me upload to photobucket atm it wont let me but my hammer will persuade it otherwise :shifty: lol.

Oh and you will have to wait as i aint gonna tell you guys what colours they are just yet you will have to wait for the pics. :shifty:

Congrats on the new fish.
And one thing about crowntails; they may tend to be a bit crabbier sometimes, but they don't blow their tails the way super deltas and half moons can...
