i got 8 females from thailand yesterday.i have them all in a 20 litre tank which i thought would easily be big enough.problem is they are way bigger than i expected.you could be forgiven for thinking some of them were males.it looks a little crowded but they arent fighting much so i was gonna leave it or get rid of a couple if i have to.
what are the dangers of a crowded tank besides the obvious acid levels?by the way the tanks only been cycling for a week.

First of all, they may end up killing each other in such a small tank
Second, like you said, the ammonia is going to end up poisoning them enless you do water changes every single day
Lastly, you tank is in the middle of a cycle, which just makes everything worse, your levels are going to be sky high

So basicly, you've already pointed out everything that is going to go wrong...

Good Luck (you'll need it) :D

Yah, that tank is way too small... as would be a tank even twice that size. :/ And even if they're not fighting now, they will... it usually takes them a day or two to get settled in and get to be little meanies.

20 liters is 5 gallons right? way to small. and i like to use a filter with my females. it makes it much easier

id at least upgrade to a 10 gallon. add the filter and get some lights and plants. then you wouldnt even have to worry about anything. cycling will not be nessisary with the live plants if you get fast growing ones, like anarcharis or hornwort.

this way you will make a beautiful tank with lots of hiding spaces and clean water.
