Hey was looking through the index and saw croaking gouramis. I thought they were extremely cool, but i was wondering if they were really rare or something cuz i've never seen any. Also I was wondering if anyone here owns one and if they croak often?
Be aware that the fish in the pic there are not trichopsis vittatus. They are sparkling gouramies (t. pumilus). Croaking gouramies get to about 2.5" and aren't quite as colorful though they do have stunning blue eyes. They croak when breeding or competing over territory but, happy fish, croak quite often as they are likely to be displaying/spawning quite often. They are best kept as trios or groups of 1 male with several females as 2 males, in a smaller tank, are likely to spar regularly, causing unecessary stress. How common they are depends on where you live but it's not usualy difficult to find thm if you look around a bit. If you still can't get any, consider ordering off the internet (though guaranteeing you get the right sexes is near impossible then). Alternatively, perhaps ask around on the forum until you find someone who has some or knows where you can find some and lives in or around your area. Croakers are lovely fish, peaceful towards other tankmates but also hardy and beautiful. They're a great choice.
