i baught a female orange molly it was kind of big alot bigger then my femaledalmation molly and black female molly. are they just bigger fish or could it be pregnant? it just swims up by the filter in the corner of tank and wont swim around it just stays there also it has some black on its lower belly but cant tell if there babies eyes showing.

also why im in this forum if it is pregnant do u put it in a breeder the whole time it is pregnant or just befor it gives brth when it starts hiding? also i was tould that its not a good idea to have th epther baby molly i got in my fish tank with my other fish in the net container thing cause they need alot of feed daily, but the food they dont eat can get into my tank and make it cloudy. i baught a brine shrimp hatchery wich they seem to like but can not really tell what the baby shrimp look like there so tiny and all the brown stuff in the packet i pour in kind of looks liek them i seen a few swimming around, and not really sure exactly what to look for to tell if there done being hatched or what.

It is probably sounds pregnant as if it is hanging around and it is large it is about to give birth.

You only put the female in the breeding trap a few days before she is due, as it is very stressful for the female.

feed the fry a fine fry powder food, and newly hatched brine shrimp, i also use daphnia as well when they get a bit larger.

If you are going to use a breeder trap, keep the time she spends in it to a minimum. If you are using a separate breeding tank, I like to put the female into it a couple of weeks ahead and let her settle in before she gives birth.

Their are a few types of mollies, sail fin mollies grow much larger then your more common dalmation, silver and black mollies. Are of a smaller type that grow to 4 inches max

You may have a sailfin molly what can grow to 6inches and the males devlop a massive top dorsal fin giving the name sailfin molly

Now the reason why you dont trap fish while their pregnant is it causes stress to the fish which in turn causes them to give birth early and resualt in weak fry that will probably die.
As in only have guppy tanks with no other fish other than coryies i rear the babies along side the parents never trapping them.
I'll only remove fry if it's a line of fish i'm wanting to develop.
It's hard at first but you soon lurn what to look for when a females is about to give birth, and if you can trap them as late as possible then the stress is reduced and resulting in much happier and healthier fish.

ok. its not a sail fin its called orange cremcical is what the name plate said.

I have a nice creamsicle molly and know what you are talking about. If you can isolate her to a separate birth tank, mine is a 10 gallon / 37 litre tank, the outcome can be like this one. This picture was taken 5 weeks after the fry drop.
