Please correct me if I'm wrong, this is just a thought.

If I was thinking of getting another tank and I have a spare filter, if I used one of thos plastic tubs from the hardware shop and got the cycle going in that, when the new tank arrives would that not short cut the cycle and if the tank arrived after say 3-4 weeks would the cycle be almost complete once the declorinated water was added?

Or would there not be enough bacteria in the filter from just that tub, does it need to be the full tank load, if so then the idea is no use.

I know i can use media from my other tanks but I'm talking about if say I hadn't another tank, I hope the post is clear enough to understand, I know what I mean. :/

Yeah, that would probably work. Just use enough ammonia for the size of tank you plan to get. Then setup the new tank and add ammonia to see how long it takes to go to zero. If its not what it was it may need anothet week or so of cycling. Good luck.

Hmmm, this was just a thought, I was thinking of a small tank for a Siamese Fighter possibly in the future but I may try this as a kind of experiment as well.
