Creating A Deep Sand Bed On Top Of Mts

I currently have about a 1" mixture of sand/plant substrate, with malaysian trumpet snails. I am thinking of adding another 2-3" of sand on top of it, with the intention of creating a deep sand bed.

Will the MTS be able to dig themselves back up to the surface from a depth of 2"+, or will I just end up burying them alive or suffocating them?

I don't know for sure but I would of thought they would be able to dig there way out. Especially as new sand won't be compacted.

Instead of adding say 2inches at once; why don't you add half an inch so that they have a chance, and then keep doing that

MTS don't generally burrow down any more than an inch anyway, as their is no oxygen that low down.
