I work at a pet store and sometimes we get the random tadpole o crayfish with our feeders. Recently, about two weeks ago, we got two crayfish in with our feeder batch and I decided to adopt them and take them home. Well, they have their own little 10 gallon tank right now, since they are about four inches each. I have plently of places for them to hide since they don't seem to like to be in the open. I was told feeders (rosys) and shrimp pellets would be the best for them, even though i haven't seen either of mine eating the shrimp pellets. The feeders have been slowly decreasing, so i'm assuming that's all they're eating right now. Now, to my question. One of my crayfish is missing one of his claws. He was like that when i got him, and I didn't think anything of it until just recently. Can he capture a rosy fine with just one claw? Should I do anything special for him? I would rather not get invovled with bloodworms and anything froozen, but are there other suggestions of things crayfish would definitely like?

I have always read that feeders were not a very good thing to feed crayfish. The reason escapes me right now, but I know it made sense at the time I read it. I feed mine shrimp pellets, peas, and potatoe peels on occasion. I would definanately not risk the one claw crayfish unless you have seen the feeders getting eaten by him. Often crayfish don't catch fish at all, but rather eat the fish that are dead or dying. Feeders are so sickly to begin with, and that is a lot of why the crayfish are able to get some of them.
