I was wondering if one or two can be kept with mbunas. I know the fish will be more than able to avoid getting caught. And the cray can clean up any left overs. Is there any reason not to keep them together?

Its okay to put them together, if you plan on feeding the crayfish tot eh Mbuna. If you dont want that to happen, i suggest you get a seperate tank for the crayfish.

Don't yabbys get up to 6"? I have P.socolofi, Yellow labs, gonna be adding afras and M. estrea (murdered the spelling)

They still will eat a lobster?

size is not the problem here. as you know Crayfish moult, even at 12 inches, they are easy pickings for many of the fish you may keep.

I just read some of the info you led me too and its not worth risking putting the two together.

Not a good combination, imo...even though there have been a few that have done it successfully. IMO, it's only a matter of time before something happens. The cray can hunt the fish at bedtime as most sleep in the rocks and the fish can pick the cray apart at it's most vulerable stage. It's just a matter of when. It's not a good idea to keep 2 crays together either. They are territorial.

Yeah so besides a pleco which I'm not a huge fan of, my only other option would be a an exotic catfish that will not reproduce in captivity.

have a look at the synodontis species, any of these should be ok,
