Coverted from Marine back to Freshwater?

Hi all

i was just talking to a friend of mine recently about marine aquariums. He used to keep a reef tank. Unfortunately, a power cut whilst he was on holiday caused a bit of a disaster.

Anyway, we were discussing how hard it is to keep marine fish and how hes gone back to freshwater, and i come to realise the majority of people i know have converted back to freshwater... for various reasons.

So i was wondering, how many of you have kept marine aquariums, but converted back to freshwater?

and did you have fish only or reef tanks? what were your experiences? good/bad?

I briefly had a fish only saltwater aquarium, but I realised it wasn't going to look like I wanted it without going reef, and I don't have the desire to learn all I'd need to know to make a reef tank, so freshwater it is. I prefer freshwater anyway, the fish are just more familiar and nice somehow. Saltwater has some amazingly beautiful fish, but freshwater species are just as interesting and a joy to have

If and when my pile of live rock from the 125 sells, I'll go back to Fresh Water (African I'm thinking) I'll re-use the crushed Argonite for substrate. I'll burry some PVC pipes in to the substrate after a nice coating of Argonite (so it'll look less foreign). It'll house (at least I hope it will) Chiclids and Synodontis Angelicus or just move my African Lungfish in to it. If I do the latter I'll be able to do the Amazon Tank since I won't have to displace 150 pounds(-ish) of Argonite.

125 is a Modified Jeaubert plenum method (Reef). It was nice when my heart was in it (got side tracked in to other hobbies) and before I started to part them out. I suppose I am the last of the friends who's still has (but trying to get out) a Marine tank. I suppose it was more like an arms race as in who has the better tank (in my case). Then again when they started to drop off (interest wise) I got some great deals.
