Got a couple of questions for the budding diyers

1. I want to paint the inside of my tank stand white but there will be a sump in there so would white oil based gloss with yacht varnish over the top be ok

2. The yacht varnish i found said it was not suitable for marine is this the right sort of varnish ?

3. If silicone cant glue acrylic to glass then how do you attach a an acrylic overflow to a glass tank ?

Thanks

For a stand, if its only 3-sided, dont bother with the yacht varnish, just stain it. If its 3-sided, go ahead and use it

That means its not suitable to be submerged in saltwater... You shouldn't be submerging your stand ;)

Silicone can glue acrylic to glass, its just not very strong. Glass-acrylic bonds via silicone will not hold back much weight, but when installing internal boxes, there's really not a lot of weight supported by the box. It just sorta sits there with water on both sides of it and really the only thing being supported is the weight of the box itself which shouldn't be very much.

Actually here in the States, GE has just come out with a silicone designed to fix silicone and acrylic/lexan to each other... Expensive, but works well
