female with eggs-unfortunatly i had to move mum+dad+eggs to a separate tank as they became very aggressive

Gorgeous fish and tank.
My Tbar used to have little stand off like that in pic 3 with my Port Acara.

yep i like those little stand offs, can be quite funny to watch as long as its not all the time.
i was quite suprised when the acaras spawned cos i didnt think they were a pair, as it turned out the eggs didnt hatch... and they havent spawned since- silly fish.

I have a suspition (a suspition mind) that the 'blue acara' in the first picture is not a blue acara, but a sp. of Cichlasoma (new genus). He looks like a very bright blue port acara, and the head shape and lateral markings are not really like a blue acara. Plus, he has a small occeli (circle) on the base of his tail like my Cichlasoma bolovense. This could explain why the eggs did not hatch, they may be hybrid eggs!

I have had thoughts that this fish may not be a true A. pulcher- its seems to be very yellow/orange in colour and not the more documented purple/ blue on the flanks. But I do still think it is a Blue Acara, the spot on the base of the tail seem to be present on a lot of the Blue acaras ive seen in pics. Apparantly A. pulcher has a lot of colour variety. With regards to the head shape he is still young and this may well change.
I have the pair in their own tank at the mo and they seem to be rekindling their love, the male is displaying and 'juddering' in front of the female, hopefully they will breed again soon.
