I have only a 40 watt T 8 fixture on here, the 2 other 56 watt T5's are off for my evening siesta period.

A siesta is basically turning all or one or more of you lighting units off during the "middle" of the day, some think it may help combat algae.
I have all my lighting units on timers and the last one to shut off is at approx 9 pm, while the other two shut off at 7 and 8pm.
Thus you get a sunset type of effect within the tank, or seista


In the morning the lights come on 1 hour apart as well.

Thanks stang.
Though you cant tell in the picture I'm having a bit of a problem with java fern rot.
I've thinnned out all, or at least most of the rotting stems, leaves and rhizome's and replaced much of it with new plants from the lfs.
All of the Anubius, which cannot really be seen in the pic is coming along as well.
Thankfully no algae problems whatsoever, other than a little bit of green spot and some BBA that developed before I set up my pressurized C02.
My red tiger lotus has sent out several new plantlets and the dwarf sag in the front is filling in nicely. The sag is staying nice and short, due to lower light levels, but thats exactly how I want it anyhow.
And my crypts have gone from 3 inches (where they've stayed for a couple of years) to over 7 inches tall now!
Sometime in the new year I may upgrade the lighting to a 2X65 watt PC fixture, or go with one more T 5 giving me a total of 3 of them.
We'll see how long the 'ol employer decides to keep my laid off.

Here's another when I first set it up, I was seeding the filter with established ones, thats what you see hanging in the front two corners.

When I first started I had a 10 Gallon, then a 20, then a 25.
When I got the 86 gallon I was flabergasted.

Now I would really like a 120 gallon, better yet a 200 plus would be nice.
I'm pretty sure my wife would leave me though if I got something bigger.
