i got this weird stuff growing in my tank, its liek a dark green alge slimy thing, but it grow liek loads faster then normal alge and i can not get rid of it....show i clean my tank out and put new substrate it it...or wat else...plz help i have tried cutting down on light.....plz..........help...............

does the tank get any sunlight on it? It is probably just green water or blanket weed. You can get a treatment to get rid of it but if the tank gets sunlight on it the the green stuff will just keep on growing back

I had the same problem. I've almost got all of mine out, but it took some elbow grease to get it off. Just use that algae scubber and some algae remover and you should be able to get rid of it.

ok....ill try to get a pictuere of it....it live on my sand...and i was think about totally cleaning the tank out and putting me substrat in it.....would that be a good idea?

It sounds like blue green algae. Check out this post in the Plants and Planted Tanks forum. There are some pictures of BGA there.

If it is, then it's actually not an algae but a bacteria and grows so fast you can almost see it. I really fought it when I first got my tank up and running and still have a slight problem. One of the best ways to fight algae is to add plants so they take the nutrients from the water before the algae does.
