right then, i know that me asking these questions will get alot of different feedback and probably alot of bashing from some forum members but i was wondering.....

i know you can keep silver dollars with oscars because of there shape the oscar wont try and eat them so how about trying to keep discus??? as oscars are very hardy i could keep to the high filteration and R O water that is suggested and keep some fairly large discus with him??? im not to esperienced with new world cichlids but this came to me and have been dieing to ask!!

I wouldn't try it.. lots of people have trouble keeping discus on their own.. I think an oscar would just harrass them to death.. definitely not something I would be trying.

my oscar tries to eat everyone in my tank.

not viciously but if they drift into his path he kinda dozily tries to grab them but i really dont think discus could take that lol.

silver dollars are nothing like discus either really. there big dumb fish.

Putting aside the aggression side of things which should be enough to put you off, if you've read into discus you'll know they need really good water quality, and that's something that's unlikely with a big messy oscar in the tank. :good:

No no no no no! :D

As already stated Discus need excellent water quality, and you'll be making life difficult on yourself with the mess produced by an Oscar. Then you have the size and behaviour of the Oscar!

Discus need to be kept with small and calm tank mates that can handle the water parameters they require, 28-30C temp and soft water. Discus are spooked very easily, and it doesn't take much to put them off their food, if this happens you'll normally end up with a sick/stunted/dead Discus. They certainly will not tolerate a fish the size of an Oscar playing with them. You may get the odd Discus that would fancy taking an Oscar on, but I fear they would come off the worse. Even if they did put up with the attentions of an Oscar they would probably be out competed for food.

thanks for all the replys, was just a mommnet of maddness thought n wondered what the feedback would be. cheers james

I usually like to throw a spanner into the works with regards to what discus can be kept with, but not this time. Maybe if your discus were adults, your oscars were an inch long, and your tank was ten feet long, then maybe yes :) I succesfully keep uarus and gold severums with discus no problem. Maybe that could be an avenue for you to explore?
