Hi, I tried putting this on the Betta forum last week, but haven't had much in the way of a good answer. It's not so much of an emergency but i'd really appreciate an expert opinion on the matter!

So here's the lowdown.. I have this Marble Male CT Betta, he's about 8 months old now, and being a marble betta he's decided to change his colour from blue to white.. (see pics). My issue is that when this began happening .. the quality of his fins went downhill as well and look more ragged and uneven than they were. The condition doesn't seem to have changed in the last week or so, so i'm taking that as good news but they don't seem to be getting much better either.

2 small questions really, firstly, if it were finrot.. does it have a very fast or slow affect? and also just in case, if I were to treat him for it anyway, would there be any harm to him?

He's got no tankmates so nipping is out of the question.. any thoughts?

Details: 7.5 UK Gallon tank, fairly hard water with 75% water changes (I usually add Tetra Aqua "Aquasafe" to treat the tap water) weekly along with filter fitted with spraybar.
PH = 7.8, Ammoni=0, Nitrites = 0, Nitrates = 10ppm. Tank temp = 82

There's also what I believe to be a bit of "hair algae" on the plants, I'm cutting the lighting down to hoefully sort this out.

Have you tryed a bacterial med like myxazin by waterlife.

Just add the correct amount of med to your tank size.
Remove black carbon from filter if you use it.
Increase aeration. As meds reduce 02 in the water.
Once meds course it up, water changes and run some fresh black carbon.

Ok thanks :good: i'll give it a go! I was told I didn't really need the carbon so I took that out of the filter a long time ago and just added some extra sponge type media..

Good Luck.

Wait, when your dosing something like melafix you need to remove the carbon? Because when I did it I didn't remove the carbon...

cool betta by the way :)
