from what i know which is limited (i did alot of reading on marine then decided to go tropical) they are salt water fish not fresh water

wow i only ever saw them in salt water tanks if you can have them in freshwater to thats great! sorry for my bad advice

Hi yeah its a knight goby, nice fish, but yes a specific set up needed

You didn't see knight gobies in saltwater aquaria. You saw something else. To be fair, there's 2000-odd species of goby, so mistakes are easy to make.

For what it's worth, the knight goby does need brackish water, and usually doesn't last long in freshwater aquaria. It is very pretty, but predatory, so can't be kept with very small tankmates. Like all gobies it's a fussy feeders, so don't buy these expecting them to eat flake -- they won't. You need live or wet-frozen foods. More here on my FAQ, and in my book of course.
