Could Plants Have Caused Shrimps Deaths?

Having a very bad day

I brought some plants through a seller on ebay, the listing says not treated with any copper meds & they are a trusted seller with a physical shop who I have purchased from before.

The plants are lovely & healthy looking, best quality ones I have brought online, so a quick swish under the tank & I planted them in.

Had a busy few hours, then checked on tank, & all my shrimp are gone,my busy, happy tank looks empty, the corydora's are all fine, busy & happy, as are the few young guppies in there, but but out of 50-60 shrimp, I could only see 2 & they were on their sides.

After a quick fish around I have found about a dozen, all looking dead or very unwell, fished them all out & put in a tub with fresh water to see if there is any hope for them.

Has this happened to anyone else? Are there any plants which are toxic to shrimp? Or any plant treatments which could have been used prior to sale?


Also is there anything I can do to save the few shrimp I have found? 2 or 3 have perked up a bit in the fresh water, is there anything I can do for them?

This also happened to my shrimp tank, from plants i recently brought from Ebay.
It most likely is not the plants themselves, but the 'medications' used. Though i did email the seller and they said, nothing was used.

Just keep the remaining shrimp warm, and do regular water changes. Good luck.




What was the sellers name, i think it may be the same person.

no not the same seller

The best you can do is daily water changes. And in future *thoroughly* wash plants.
