Could I breed guppys in a 20 long?
If i can, how should i set it up, to do selective breeding?
I have the heater and filter and stuff

Find a male with the colors and traits that you want. Then find 2 or 3 female guppies that are plain in color, no markings or anything. Make sure they are either Virgin, or out of Sperm to make babies. You can buy Virgin guppys from local breeders.

Long tanks are always prefered as fish of a single species normally don't take up the horizontal space. Guppies should do fine in that space. I would put the filter on one end if you can and let it filter along the length of the tank. Then gravel vaccuuming is easy because all the waste should be on one side of the tank.

ok, so far i have 2 breeder nets, would it be easier to keep the tank bare bottum

Actually, an undergravel filter would work well in this scenario without gravel. They get clogged more often and then they are a hassle to clean, but without actual gravel, it would work nicely.

If u want to line breed guppies you need 2-3 tanks ideally, to try to create or fix a new line then you looking at 8-10 tank min.

As like said before you need a virgin female (like i usually keep a few around). Once you get fry you then seperate the males ASAP so that you can then cross back daughter's with dad, and or mother with son's.

Each female would then need a tank to their self so u can the log the resulting fry and then select the next generation for breeding.

Once you get a line producing 95% true then you should be happy.

Good luck though.

P.S. i use bare bottomed or sand with jave moss in the tank with sponge filter.

Works a treat and easy to maintain
