Could I Up My Barbs?

currently have

5 denisonii barbs
2 cupid cichlids
2 african butterfly fish
1 firemouth
1 elliotti cichlid
1 blue acara
4 pictus catfish
1 leopard frog pleco
1 candy stripe pleco

in my 300 ltr tank.

just wondered if i could up the denisonii barbs to 7. may have to remove the blue acara as its a bit of a bully

Provided that you have adequate filtration that should be fine.

i have an aquaone 1200 external and a jbl i200 internal, was thinking of taking the blue acara out and adding 2 denisonii and a synodontis petricola

Yes, they do better in shoals above 6 aswell

How many times are we going to see the condoning of adding temperate fish to what are tropical fish stockings on this forum?

Theyre ok at 24

to be honest i am finding it hard to get my tank down to 24, the temp on my heater is set to 24 yet the thermometer always shows 26. if i put cold water in then the heater ups it back to 26

Newbie mistake on my part. Every LFS here sells Rosy Barbs and Zebra Danios as "tropical fish". Especially pushing the Zebra Danio as the "perfect fish for a new tank"! My Rosy Barbs are the only type that I have not lost a single one. Definitely would need a heck of a chiller to attain that temp during a Texas summer!
