Hi i want something else to finish off my tank, preferably nicely coloured and fairly prominent (ie. won't hide away) and was wondering if there were any cories that fitted that description because i havn't got many bottom dwelling fish?

If not cories then any suggestions?

I've got hard water with a PH of about 8 (i know i've got rams but they're new additions so i'll have to wait and see if they adapt)

Thanks! :D

Corys aern't very brightly colored and will spend a fair amount of their time hiding amoungst plants due to being primarily noctornal fish.
Livebearers though(i.e platys, guppys, mollys, swordtails) come in a variety of colors and are very active fish although you need to get the gender ratios right and also be prepared for the large quantitys of fry they produce.
How many gallons does the tank hold?

My three cories aren't very colourful, but they do like to dance around at the front of the tank. They seem to be such show-offs, and a great deal of fun to watch.

It's a 63l tank which i think is about 17 us gal.

Thing is i've already got 2 male guppies, i had females before and got fed up with the babies.

Also i was wanting something that got a bit bigger, like 3-4 inchs so i could really see it, i've got enough little fishies

Well I was researching Rams and there tankmates this week cause i am getting them and read in alot of diffrent places that rams are known to attach bottom dwellers like cory's. They will take there eyes out. I had to put my cory's back into my livebearer tank. So bottom dwellers are not to good with rams.

Hi,

Take a look at some loaches for possible bottom dwellers. I have 4 pygmy chain loach which stay small. They are out in the open a lot more than my other loaches and swim all over the tank. Also black khuli loachs, i have 3 black and 3 stripy khuli's, the black ones are out all day swimming up and down the tank walls, the stripys only really come out in the evening when i feed them and hide in the plants all day. Also Zebra loach stay under 4 inches and so may be possible depending on what else is in the tank.

Hope this helps

I had not heard or read that about german blue rams. I have been planning to add 4 to my 75 gallon and everyone on this site and another I visit has told me I shouldn't have any problems with GBRs and corys. Everything I have read on GBRs says they are very peaceful.

rams are fine with cories...a spawning pair chases away cories, but it is silly to base your entire stock list on what someone else read.....

I know when i was asking people about rams here i wasn't told anythiny thing about cory's not being good for the tank. But then i googled it and i think i saw 3 sites that said no cory's. Just go to google and type in cichlid rams and you will get sit4es. Go through them and on some sites and look at the headliners like TANKMATES. If you get the same sites i got you will see it says no cory's. Yeah i know its a bummer cause i was going to put them together too.

You had me scared there for a minute, my catfish is 4 yrs old and i had visions of coming home and seeing him eyeless!

Ok people this needs to get through. People say rams are peaceful. What they mean is peaceful for a cichlid. They cannot be compared to something peaceful like a balloon molly or something like that. Or else it wouldn't be a cichlid. Thats one of there traits agressiveness. There not as agressive as an oscar or nothing like that though. Heres the site that i read about the cory's. The site. Believe who ever you want to believe but i wouldnt do it.

Well if rams love to bite fish's eyes out because they are so aggressive (As you say all cichlids are supposed to be), then why does my dad have a ram and some cories living peacefully in his tank? Rams are very peaceful cichlids, I've seen platys be more aggressive than rams. A breeding pair may pick on other fish, but I can't see a ram just going around biting out the eyes of catfish, in 8 years of fish keeping I haven't even had cichlids more aggressive than rams bite out eyes, and none of my rams have ever done that (They always had cories in their tanks too!)
Believe what you want, but don't go generalizing an entire species of fish because one guy on some cichlid website says they bite out eyes.
