Hi - I'm planning ahead re what fish to get. I have read that corys like to be in shoals of 4 or 5 or 6 at least. Does this have to be all of the same cory species or will they all mix together quite happily. I guess my question is, if you get 2 peppar corys, 2 albinos and 2 bronze, will they all live happily together?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Same species is preferred but there won't be any issues if you mix. Shoaling may or may not happen, and the albinos will most likely be either pepper or bronze corys anyway.

Cories will live happy healthy lives alone in a tank. Until I learned how much better they behave in groups I often just had one or two of a type. Now that I have seen cories in groups of 6 to 15 I will not be going back to small groups or singles. In a group of 6 or more, the interactions and playfulness of cories really comes out. They are among some of my favorite fish now. If you have two of each of 3 different species, it would be like being back to only having 2 cories. The social interactions just won't be there although the cories will be fine as far as their health is concerned.

It's best to get cories of the same kind. I mean they'll be fine if you have a couple of different ones, but if you want them to shoal together it would be best to just stick with a single kind. Usually when cories get comfy in their tanks though, they don't normally shoal together to begin with lol.
You could probably have pandas school with skunks and various other cories that look similar to eachother school though.
