I have a molly fry in a tank that I have 4 peppered corys in. Is it safe to let the little guy out of the breeder net? Will the corys try to eat him? The tank has quite a bit of cover in it for the little guy to hide, but I don't want him to be lunch for my corys.

Thanks

hmmm, i wouldnt call platys preditory either but they will still eat fry.
the corys will deffinately eat him if they had the chance, they may not eat him but i wouldnt risk it at all, i have actally seen one of my corys eat a fry which was hiding in the gravel whilst i was trying to catch him.
if i was you id wait till he gets a bit bigger until you think he will noty be able to fit in the corysmouths. :good:

I have not known platy fry hide in the gravel once they get beyond the newborn stage. Yours is presumably a bit older than that, he should already be interested in being out and about in the tank looking for food, and hiding when he needs to hide in the plants. If he hides in the gravel, that could indicate there is something wrong.

Thanks for all the replies. My molly fry is almost 2 weeks old. I'm hoping it's a little bigger by the beginning of November because I'm leaving on vacation. I want to take it out of the breeding net and release it into the tank with the other fish while I'm gone, but I didn't want it to become a snack for my corys or it's mother, which is still in the tank.

Thanks,

Lisa

I was also waiting for mollie fry to get big enough. Everyone told me you could put them in when they couldn't fit in any of the fishes mouths. Someone finally gave me a size. I was told they needed to be 1 inch long before you can release them safely. Hope that helps. ;)
