Hi all,

A few days ago, I became the proud owner of some sweet little Corys that the guy in the LFS didn't know the name of. (It turns out that they are Corydoras loxozonus)

My Dad kept Corys when I was a kid, but I'm a bit clueless about them, so I've got a few questions:

* First of all, after finding out what species they are, I read on to find that they are happiest in temperatures around 24ºc. The problem I have is that I KNOW that in Summer (I live in the UK) my tank temperature CAN get as high as 31ºc - and seeing as we're heading in to Summer right now, I'm a tad concerned. Seeing as the water's temperature will be rising naturally and therefore slowly, will they acclimatise to it? The articles I read about these chaps don't say if it's the heat that they find stressful or the lack of dissolved oxygen. Does anyone know which of these causes problems?

And what can I do about it? I've looked into aquarium chillers, but these cost a FORTUNE!!!

* Does anyone know anything about Corydoras loxozonus? It seems like they don't have a common name, so how common are they in the aquarium trade? How much do they sell for? (Because the guy in the LFS didn't know what species they were, he didn't know what to charge me!!) Do they have any special requirements?

* I've got my lil' fellas in a group of three. Is this an OK number? They seem quite happy tootling around the tank together and are eating like piglets, so they seem happy enough...

Cheers!!

:)

With my cories i leave the lid up if i'm home and i have a ceiling fan that cools the tank down nicely.

Some use bottles filled with water and freeze them and leave floating in the tank, but eventually they melt.and can cause temp fluctuations...

Put an airstone in to increase airation...

I find the best way is with a fan blowing by the tank :good:

Yeah, aeration is a really good way to cut down the temperature, I had to buy a heater for my tank because it kept getting down to 16C once I added the airstone

fans prob best bet, was gonna ask this question myself my tanks have been getting up to around 30, will be difficult for me to fan my tanks tho

I know it would be hard (maybe impossible for big tanks) but if all else fails, could you move the tank(s) to a cooler part of the house? Maybe a basement? This would be risking a lot, though, so I wouldn't do it unless absolutely necessary meaning that your fish were really suffering.

Are you sure they aren't bandit corys? These look exactly the same just minus the spots and they're much more common.

It probably be better simply because there are a lot more people who know about bandits and what they need

Not an option, I'm afraid - I live in a one bedroomed flat/apartment.
