I need a fish to benefit one of my tanks, something that'll keep my substrate reasonably clean due to endless surplus flake from feeding my beaufortia....
Would a corydora acheive this?
If so the tank conditions are quite specific due too it being a beaufortia loach tank.
Quite fast moving water, 20-24 degrees celcius and able to be kept alone without unneccessary stress?
Not growing to anymore than 3 inches.
There are no plants in the tank currently, although i'd be adding some vallis soon.
Is there a suitable species, if it comes to it i can just keep on gravel-vaccing....

a single corydora would not, they really need to be kept in groups, 6+ is ideal really.

however most cories are ok at the lower temps and wouldn't mind the fast flowing water and will happily munch any left over flake

not sure what they're requirements are re the above two points you'd have to do some research but how would you feel about a trio of cories if they stayed under 1"? if that would be ok then do some research into C Pygmaeus, C Hastatus and C Hasbrosus that all stay small :good:

Yes, for a solitary bottom feeder I would look elsewhere. I don't what your other occupant is, so have no clue what would be compatible? Apple snail? ADF? appisto?

Cheers again Wiggles, you have a good point 1x3 inches=3x1 inch fish!!!
Can't believe i failed to notice that....
I am, officialy a genius
Jollysue the other fish are butterfly hillstream loaches, your missing out if you've not heard of them!
They are the funniest li'l fish going, but i may be biased.
Thanks.

double check they're requirements, I know a lot of cories are fine at lower temps, but don';t know specifically for those species so just make sure you check it out. something to think about anyway.

and that's another bottle of lambrini you owe me ;) I'm gonna get reeeeeeal drunk at this rate!

Might upgrade you to concorde at this rate
Ta mate, i'll get some research done tonight. Any pointers on water speed?

really not sure to be quite honest, a lot of smaller fish prefer a calmer set up however that's by no means a hard and fast rule, plenty of exceptions.

in general i think if you can't find any info saying if they like it or not then they are probably fine. most fish who'd struggle with fast water it'll be fairly common knowledge so by the time you've checked a few sources if it say's nothing about them not liking it, chances are they'll be ok.

it carries a certain element of risk as with anything but that's for you to judge if you want to take it and what options you have if they don't like it. :good:
