I have an emerald cory and he has gill lukes I think because he gills are red and he is listless on the bottom. So I was wondering if its treatible so I won't have to return him to my lps.

Beat me to it.

Not advised really but they can tolerate abit of salt maybe a salt bath of a teaspoon of salt to the gal, but if he freaks out and starts turning upside down remove him, salt bath are for 30 minutes, but i would start him of gradually on 5 minutes.

I have him in a holding tank could I use half of a 1/8 teaspoon to keep him alive till I can return him to my lps?

I very small pinch of salt mix in a cup of tank water, good luck.

Use the most effective anti-worm medicine out there. Praziquantel. Same stuff they give your dog or cat when they have worms since it is very effective against worms and very safe. It comes as a white powder, but Hikari even makes a stabilized liquid form: Hikari's PraziPro http://www.uskoi.com/prazipro.htm

Make sure it is flukes before treating, there are lots of causes of red gills and listlessness. Most of the time if the fish has gill flukes it will scratch its gills and sides against decorations vigorously. Have you tested your water lately? Nitrite pollution can cause the same symptoms you said. Ich in the gills is also a possibility (though that is usually accompanied by scratching, too). Gill flukes can usually only be completley diagnosed if a swab is taken of the infected area.

I feel so bad because he wasn't active when my grandmother return him and when she took it back she said he looked at it and said that he didn't like that it wasn't active and he just set it on the counter. So I think they tossed him in the trash. :(

That's awful, hope not he deserved to die in peace.R.I.P.

Well he might have been in pain so maybe it was best for him to be euthanized. :dunno:
