Cory with a red mouth?!?

Hi yesterday evening i was doing a tank check and i noticed that my peppered cory had a red mouth and is just sitting at the bottom of the tank when usually he swims away if anyone comes up to the tank so isn't usual self

it isn't anywhere else on his body but my fish book didn't describe anything similar to this so does anyone have any ideas??

it could be physical damage as symptoms do include damage to the mouth & badly damaged fish may become listless are the barbles intact?

if you have gravel then this iritates the mouths, most people keep them with sand.

I agree it could be the gravel is it rounded gravel or does it have sharp edges, i would add some melafix to the tank just to be on the safe side.
