Sorry to ask again, but does anyone know why my albino cory looks like this (pic attached)

Do you mean as opposed to being totally white?

I believe cories can and do darken when they are settled in their environment. I think it can also happen if they have dark surroundings/substrates in order to better blend into their home.

Hi, thanks for your reply...I'm not sure what to think to be honest....it's a light sand and some white gravel I have which he used to blend in to but now he doesn't...I was wondering if its advanced septacemia? I guess it might not hurt treating him just in case seeings it doesn't hurt other fish. What do you think?

What other reasons are there that make you think a blood problem? How's his behaviour and feeding and interaction with other tank mates?

Do you have a note of your water tests and tank specs handy?

I have a 65L tank with 4 Cory's and 3 glow lights (once cycle finished I will get more glows)
I am just about in the nitrate stage, and this morning my readings were;
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0 (but only this last 48 hours)
Nitrate was 40 but have since done a 50% water change as the Cory's seemed a bit sluggish this morning. Not sure if it was the water change that perked them up but they have been much more active since. All Cory's are doing their normal thing and feeding well. No fin problems whatsoever. All barbels intact.
The reason I think possibly a scepticemia problem is because obviously with my tank cycling, the bad water might have been too much for him to cope with, my other albino's have the same but much milder symptoms - but I did get them later that him and from another shop.

You'd expect to see some damage done at the base of fins, red striping on the fins and body and also some reddening around the eyes with a blood infection.

It's difficult to see from your pics but his colouring seems a little more even than that. Can you see any of the above symptoms.

That said, no matter what the issue, if you're doing a fish-in cycle, you must keep up with your water changes and water tests as religiously as you can!

Have you read up on all the cycling info?

Other things to keep an eye on are bloating, inactivity and loss of appetite.

Meant to say, cories are seasonal fish and will react to a water change if there is a change in temperature. A significant change in temp or water chemistry can even lead to spawning behaviour!

I have studied all Cory's and can see nothing bad on fins, they all look good...the red line that runs from mid belly to end of body, before tail fin starts is what confuses me. In bright light they look more 'normal' than in natural light. I am extremely conscious about my water changes and water tests done by api liquid freshwater master kit. I always do a minimum of 50% water changes daily at the moment simply because I have fish in the tank () The Cory's all seem fine so I am hoping that they settle in how they look once my cycle has completed. My partner thinks I have lost it but supports me in what I do lol. It's funny you should mention about the water change/temperature and possibly triggering spawning but here is another question to you. If any of the Cory's, or the female glow light in my tank spawned during the night and the Cory's feasted on the eggs, would this then explain why ALL the Cory's were just resting when I got up, but fine a few hours later...would they have eaten enough eggs to have filled their little bellies and made them too full to do much? The reason I ask this is because as I was about to do a water change this morning there were tiny clusters of what I could only describe as eggs floating on the surface...doing daily water changes for a few weeks now I have not seen anything like it before. I don't know what eggs look like of course as this is my first tank.

It could be, I suppose... without seeing your little egg clusters, I couldn't be sure, though.

As far as I know, breeding and spawning of cories can take several days. They do the glass dance, which you might have seen, 2 of them try to mimic each others movements, and this can go on for for a good few days.

If they are quite active at night then that might also explain their resting in the morning. Couldn't be sure, though!

I have had a look at the types of eggs for Cory's and glow lights and they looked more like the glow lights.....me being the person I am I couldn't just let them go down the plug hole so scooped them up into a net and the net is resting at the top of the water. Call me stupid but couldn't think of anything else to try to hold them in and keep the temp right...will let you know what...if anything happens, although I am 99% certain nothing will happen!!!

Sounds like a good idea under the circumstances!

Good luck with them!

Nothing happened...upon inspection the egg had turned coloured rather than white, i had put it in one net then another finer net under that first net....but while looking I took the 2nd net away and then it suddenly disappeared through the holes in the first net into the tank...sigh...oh well, serves me right for not being ready....if its meant to be one day......!!!
Going to shop to buy a small breeding box...just in case there is another time :0)
