One of my cory adolfi is lying on his back, not interested in moving or joining the other fish.

The tank specs / water are ok.

I am not sure if he is ill or it is his age, I have had him for almost 18 months. In that time none of the adolfi have been ill, always thought they were very tough wee fish.

The other adolfi are ok.

Any suggestions etc greatly appreciated.

Thanks

What size is your tank and what fish do you have in there? How old was he when you got him?

It is a 35 litre tank.

There are 5 adolphi in total.

I don't know how he was when we got him but I am thinking that he was young, was very small.

Once fish lay on there back they rarely make it.
Can you issolate him.
Does he look bloated or thin.
Any red streaking or red sores on the body of the fish.

He is not bloated, possibly slightly thinner than usual.

No red streaks or sores. No visible signs of illness at all. He is almost as if he has swim bladder.

He is actually sitting normally again just now.

I should be able to isolate him, I have a spare tank, no filter and a very simple heater.

Has he lost weight due to not eating.
I would issolate him and try a bacterial med.
Hows the cory breathing, is it heavy or laboured.

You will need an airstone for aeration.
If no filter keep an eye on water stats, and preform water changes.

There is a debate if he is thinner or not, but I think he has been slightly less active than normal when getting fed over the last couple of days. If there is weight loss it is not a great deal, I would say he still has a healthy body weight.

Breathing is normal.

At the moment he is back sitting normally with the rest of the corys, you would not think that there is anything wrong with him.

I will islate him and treat the water with pimafix.

Whats your location as he needs an internal med. Not pimafix it's an external med.

I am in Edinburgh. None of the local shops are open at this time.

Do you have an idea what it may be?

Corys are very prone to bacterial infection. That why its so important to keep up with gravel vacs and water changes.

Esha 2000 or anti internal bacteria med by interpet.

The only anti bacterial ones I have in the house are melafix and myxacin - I take that these will not be of any use?

Try myxazin.
Let the board know how you get on if you don't mind.
Good Luck.

Unfortunately the wee guy passes away today.

I treated him with the myxazin, I never realised until yesterday that we actually had a bottle of the interpet anti internal bacteria med in the house.

I thought that he seemed to be getting better, I hoped it was swim bladder and that he would get over it but unfortunately not.

This illness seems to have come on very quickly, is there any warning sings that I should have spotted earlier? I always check my fish at least once a day to make sure they are ok, this time I saw no warning signs.

I am worried in case it was passed on to the other corries. Guess I better be extra vigilant over the coming days.

Thanks for the help, it was greatly appreciated.

Bless Him.
R.I.P.

Just keep a close eye on the other fish.
Might aswell finish the med course now.
