I got my first bunch of cories three days ago and got a few more the two times I visited the LFS the past two days (onces for a glass hood return and dsecound for a dead cory (RIP)).

Anyway.. I noticed they will eat and then swim away and eat soem were else and suddenly stumel on the food again and ea tmroe and do it over and over again...

Sometimes on will start to swim towards the top slowly then the others do the same, then they all rush up to the top and swim to the bottem real fast...

and they are all sitting on the bottem left side of the tank...

are they always this loopy or is it jsut cories being cories?

that reminds me.. how exactly do I feed them? and is Shrimp pellets and goldfish gel food enough for them? Currently I jsut drop a few shrimp pellets in and a small cube of gel food in the morning and then at night. they eat it.. but veyr slowly.. :/

Loopy is corys being corys. They are fun little fish, they do eat like that, and like to zip to the surface. Try feeding some bloodworms, they like a little more protein. For little fish they can eat a lot.

Yes thats what cories do they are constantly forraging for food and then take desperate dashes to the top of the tank I have two albino cories they get about 3/4 to the top of the tank and have to do two dashes its to large for them to get in one go

I bought 6 corys recently and asked the same questions! They are really funny little fish, always busy somewhere in the tank or making mad dashes to the surface and dive bombing back down again. 3 of mine also like to spend ages swimming against the filter flow at the top!

Goldfish food is nor reccomended, neither are only shrimp pellets (once in a while is fine)

You need to buy quality catfish pellets. Mine are specially for corydoras and the company is kingbritish.

Ask your lfs for corydoras catfish pellets.

yeah they're just nuts! it's best when you get a nice big group of them, then they all play together, mine play leapfrog, one swims up a bit, then the next one come from behind and swims over him and they keep doing it over them! well funny! So if you've room I'd try and up the numbers to 6-8 if possible.

catfish pellets are mine's staple diet, but they'll have bits of whatever's in there, bloodworms or owt like that :good:

Yep, as everyone else said, they are mental :fun: My albinos, come up so quick they hit the condensation tray

They'll eat pretty much anything, mine generally get catfish pellets and a mix of bloodworm/shrimp/mussel pellets along with frozen foods like bloodworm which they love. They also eat any uneaten flakes/granules that the other fish don't get to.

Great little charcters :good:

Yeah Corys are mad  !

The dashing to the top of the tank is to gulp oxygen which they then store in thier gut.

They need to do this to live but I can't for the life of me remember why? :S Anyone help?

I agree, they are totally bonkers! I'll be sitting watching tv and just hear splashes as the cories are doing their thing! Great for the cats to watch!

My Panda Corys i had in my son's tank used to like swimming in the bubbles, loads of fun to watch.

They are definately the most entertaining fish I've ever had- I'm definately getting a couple for my new set-up :good:
