Doing a bit of research and was wondering what substrate would be best for a Tanganyikian themed tank? Thinking crushed coral of some sort, but would 5mm or 1mm be best? Looking at keeping my Brichardi's and possibly a couple of small shell dwellers such as Telmatochromis Burgeoni. Also thinking of adding some ocean rock and obviously some shells of some description.

Is it just a matter of choice or is one better than the other?

Thanks. David.

Crushed coral sand is used to raise it, depends what your ph is out of the tap. Test it out of the tap and then test it 24 hours later after being aerated aswell and see what the reading is then, but a stable ph is better. Normal sand though would look more natural.

Thanks for the advice, is there anything else I could do to raise the ph as I think I would prefer a darker substrate.
