i'm not quite sure which to get in my 55g tank. convict or firemouths. what would be best? could they go together? what other fish would be suitable to go with these fish?

thanks for the help.

How long is yer 55G, if it's long enough you may get away with 1 pair of each as long as you put things in the middle of the tank to divide their territories, add them all at the same time, as far as anything else....NO!.
I'm just thinking about maybe adding a bristlenose plec, if you do put him in a week before the cichlids.

Currently i have in my 4 ft tank, 2 firemouths, one at 1" and one at 3", 3 convicts, a normal and a pink, both at 2" that have paired up, and a lone 1", 3 severums 1 5" green, 1 4" Gold and a 1" gold, and also several other tropicals. These fish have been together for several months and are doing great. The pair of convicts have taken over about 12" square of the tank and have spawned, but this isnt a problem. The only other thing of note is the larger firemouth that keeps displaying to the severums, but doesnt actually get aggressive. This lasts for about 5 minutes each day, and then he gives up. Good luck with whatever you decide.

A breeding pair of cons are ok in a 29g so a 55g would be perfect for them with room to spare.

I wouldn't recommend putting a mild fish like a firemouth in with a breeding pair. If you want 1 con and 1 FM and then add a few others that are different species, I don't see a problem with that.

If you can drop the con, your possibilities will open up more tho.

You should tell us which you want, the con or FM, and then we'll go from there and try to help you out. It's your tank afterall.

GET A PAIR OF BOTH I USED TO HAVE A MALE AND FEMALE OF BOTH BUT MY MANAGUA ATE BOTH THE FEMALES
