if i buy a male and female convect can i expect them to have fry or is there a chance cupid wont do his job and they wont like each other?

i prolly should have read this before i bought mine =P

they were 4 bucks for a pair so it no big deal.

they are in a 55 gal with a parrot and a pair of labs

i was setting it up for mbuna but im not sure if i want that type of tank now

i figure i can feed them to my oscar and save money on feeders... =)

I dont think its wrong, i do this in my 150g, just want to know how the oscar gets along when there breeding is he stressed at all? cause in my 150g my auratus and red devil eat the young (Convicts almost died sticking up to them)

I use my Con. fry as feeders for my 65 ..... Everything in there loves em especially my keyholes and pictus....I know some think its cruel...but they dont last long once they hit the water...its quick ;)

will male and female cons flare there gills at each ohter and sorta swim back and forth at each ohter? i was told i got a m and a f but i hope i didnt get 2 males, one has pink stuff on her belly, ill take a pic of "her" tonight imma divide my 55 gal in half , half for cons half for yellow labs, 2wice the fry!

imma be pissed if they dont start breeding soon!

any replies will be helpful

the female will have a pink belly that will intensify as she gets closer to breeding. when she has laid the eggs she may flare and chase away the male. some will take turns guarding the eggs, but for the most part it is the females job.

also, cons are great parents. they will guard their young to the fullest extent. as for previous spawns, they will also help to rear the new fry. i have never had a pair of cons eat previous spawns after laying eggs.

cons are usually kept for feeders. depending onhow you ration out them, a spawn could last til the next one.

TY =)

what if i let some of the fry go in a local pond lol

Also...with my Cons...when they spawn ...the male becomes very protective of the fry and he will eventually turn on the female....i have to remove the female to a 10 gal. sick tank until i remove the fry....i move around the edcorations in the tank and re introduce the female...so i'd becareful if you dont have a way to remove the female.

Since most stores wont take baby cons. then if you you have other fish say angels or bettas, feed some fry to them. Right now the only other tank i have that can be considered a home for the fry is a what looks like a 5.5g tank. So I think i'll have to get the cheap $10 10g from walmart if they mate.
