Hey guys, just bought (as in 5 mins ago) a Juwel Vision 180 off a good friend, and he's delivering it on sunday.

The tank i have at the moment (55litre) was cycled with fish, which i regret so im going to do a fishless cycle (so you can all expect more questions in other topics later on :p)

While thats all happening im going to sort out my plants, fish etc.

I'm planning on keeping mainly Convicts in the tank, as they've been my favourite fish for a while now, and wondered if you had any opinions on this as a stocking list.

8 Convicts
1 Bulldog Catfish (how hard is it going to be for me to find one of these at a LFS?)
1 RTBS

I used an online community creator (if you want the link PM me) and that said that there'd be no problems, and that my stocking level is 248cm, and im currently up to 96cm.

However, i realised that its alot better to get advice from people with experience than relying on a computer. So...

Do you guys think this is a good choice?

Is there any other fish which you think would go well? (i was thinking clown loaches, but put off a bit by their size)

All help is much appreciated :)

The tanks around 45 gal...

sounds good but far to many convicts. the only way i think a convict tank would work is if, you get just 6 Females, there smaller and dont fight as much as males.

As females gt to around 4" thats 4 x 6 = 24"

plus the plec and rtbs, i think will be fne.

See thats why i thought id ask you guys, as thats something a computer wouldnt tell me :p

I've seen a tank at my LFS which was like a display tank (i.e. nothing for sale) and it either had convicts or frontosa (i think thats right) in it, and its pretty much how i want mine to be. Are convicts easy to get hold of? My LFS only displays the latin/proper names for their fish, so i tend not to look at them, and i have no idea if i've been looking at convicts or frontosa (once again, i think thats what there called).

Also, would putting my two bolivian rams in there be not such a good idea, or would it be okay?

Brigg Garden Centre. With the exception of my 4 bronze corys i've had all my fish off them. If you havent been i strongly recommend it.

Convicts are easy to get hold off. if your lfs doesnt hav any in. ask them to order you some in.

Frontosas reach around 12" where as convicts reach 4-6" depending on m/f

Heres a Frontosa,

which ones at your lfs?

I think they have frontosa (im gonna pay attention to the damn labels now :p)

Hum...they both look so good...although i think its going to have to be convicts purely due to the size of the Frontosa.

Would convicts get along with my bolivian rams?

lol, yea frontosas are to big for the 180. also i wouldnt add the rams, just have the convicts.

anything else you/anyone think would go well in the tank with the plec, RTBS & Convicts?

Cheers for all the help

nah, tbh i think it will look a well stocked tank. maybe some corys, and some dither fish. will put the icing on the cake,

id say something like this would be more than ok.

6 Female Convicts
1 Plec
1 Rtbs - Not to sue are very mean may kill the convicts.
6 Bronze corys (only if you dont add a rtbs)
6 tetras (like Congo)

i'd probably leave the tetras till last 'cos im not too keen on fish like that, but if i think it'd look good then i'll probably get some.

Hum...looks like i've gotta choose between bronze corys or a RTBS. I have Bronze corys in my current tank...and i adore them. There amazing.

Would a Silver Shark be a better addition than a RTBS?

Cheers again.

no silver sharks get over a foot. they also need a min tank of 6x2x2. id just get the corys.

Convicts are pure evil I wouldnt keep anything with them to be honest my 3 are with 2 plecs which they leave alone they did have a school of 10 danios last saturday and today there is 4. Here is a pic of them for you as mine are marbled convicts.

yeah im probably going to think more about what i want in the tank (i.e. all convicts, or a nice variety of fish). TBH its not like im in a rush as i wont be beginning my fishless cycle till sunday (im working away & its my 18th so maybe even the sunday after).

Thanks for all your info guys. Its things like this that stop people like me making a hell of alot of mistakes.

Thanks again :)
