Seems to be so many people with different results, just curious to know in a 55 USg tank if you have had any success keeping tank mates with JD's or Convicts while they were breeding / bringing up fry.

you can do either, plenty big for a mated pair of either. Just I wouldn't recommend throwing tankmates in as the parents will hurass the other tankmates. So... by themselves, a single pair of either would be fine... but thats it

Yes, the parents will see anything than con potentially eat the eggs or wigglers as a threat.

Ok will keep a very close eye on it and when they decide to breed then I will have to take action.

Cheers

The group of Convicts that I now own used to be in a 55, and they spawned once. The previous owners kept all the fish in the tank, and the two parents did their best to protect the young. No existing fish died, but one by one the fry were eaten by the other cons. In short, if you want tankmates, be prepared for fish death either way.
