tommorrow im trading my friend my JD and a Male Convict for some babie convicts ..... how many convicts can i have in my 55 gal tank if i was to raise them

maybe three or four,maybe more

but are youkeeping them with the tetras and barbs?

DD

depends though, if oyu have too many, then you could get a breeding pair and have a mess, and if you get all the same sex, you could have a mess, try with convicts and another speicies like severum or firemouth or somthing, that would be cool

you could get by with 2 breeding pairs until they reach around 4" and then one pair might take over and kill the other as at this size they'll require a much larger territory. you could grow them up to around 3" and keep the pair you like and add a large school of tiger barbs to chase around. this would make for a nice setup imo. :)

Convicts are like roaches. I have had up to 300 at one time. I have 6 adults and about 50 fry presently in the same tank. The parents of the fry keep the others away with very little trouble. All of these are from an original pair which has since passed. The present fry is fourth generation.

I have had no problems keeping up to 10 adults toghether. So 4-5 in a 55 should be fine. Let them grow some and pick out the keepers give the rest away or use them as feeders.

Your cons will pair up and will have babies. These babies will live and you need do nothing. The parents are by far the best ever. If you have babies in future don't get frightened if you see parents collecting babies in mouth their just relocating the fry, their not eating.

Good luck, can't go wrong with these fish, unless somthing terrible happens to water quality, and I mean really bad.

with convicts, like 4 or 5 would be totally understocking the tank, but i dont think convicts should be kept in groups any bigger than 4-5 because they will just fight and fight and fight, they seem to be happiest with a male/female pair by them selves, you could do two in the 55 with some other cichlids like a sev or somthing
