I recently took this fish in from a friend, telling me it was a convict, once I got him home and had a good look I'm a little unsure as I think he looks more like a Malawi. He is currently in a 180 litre tank with a 4inch pleco, but obviously need to clarify which he is before I add more? He was previously in a tank with tetras and gouramis but wasn't a problem until recently (the reason I had him) if anyone can help it would be appreciated :) http://m.flickr.com/#/photos/69490829@N02/6318436470/

Thanks!! Yeah was a little sceptical when I had a look at it, just not sure what it is. I'm not convinced its a Malawi due to its behaviour in its last tank (didn't kill anything!) especially as it was in with the tetras and gouramis for quite a while

Kind of reminds me of a small Green Terror

I think maybe the acei is best guess so far as my photo doesn't do him justice, and he does seem to have the vivid colourings under intense lighting. I was planning to have some tin foil barbs introduced next week, will have to keep an eye on them.

Looks like some sort of melanochromis exasperatus maybe very similar colouration :good:

Here's a better picture :) http://m.flickr.com/#/photos/69490829@N02/6321864830/

I would say that the fin structure suggests that it is some sort of pseudotropheus species
