Hi all!

Hows it going?

Well, arrived home today to mayhem and murder. The cons had spawned, and I suspected wrigglers, and indeed expected free swimmers any day.

At least one hundred fry today. Add to that two dead juvenile salvinis and a very very sick Rainbow, and a smashed up juvey convict aswell.... :(

I have a 48 gallon(UK) tank.

Convicts are too aggressive for a mixed S.A.C tank.

I'm transfering the lame ones to the LFS. They will keep them until they are well enough to be sold, if they survive.

Now really fed up. Two £3.50 cons have killed my prized Salvini's. £15 down the drain. I'm going to be asking lots of questions next time.

Sulking.

I feel so sorry for your salvinies, but you should know that convicts are so agressive when it comes to spawning, after all their name is convict's. Sorry for your loss. :/ :/ :( :(

Well,

All was well until I removed the 'Alpha' male and female last week.

The remaining monsters go it on really quick, and now I have lost my favourite fish. :/

I have a few days off next week, I'm going to strip the tank and start again. Don't know what with, just fed up.... :-(

sicking up for the convicts here! they are great fish, and true they get aggressive when breeding but if u keep them on there own or keep just females u can mix them with many other C.A.C. and many .S.A.C. I have found over the years of keeping them if u do it like this they r fine.
they tend not to cause any trouble at all then. thumbs up for the convicts

(sry about ur loses, hope the new setup goes well! ) ;)

Hmm,

Just feel that they need a little more room. They really are agressive little monsters! I might consider them again, but I'm going to give them at least 50% more room that most, or just go for a specimen tank....with only two inhabitants!

PS,

Don't laugh, I'm now looking at a tank full of Gups!

It's the only way to keep them. They really are little terrors and they love hogging territory.

AARRRRRGGHHH!

Looks like most of my time going to spent on the Livebearers forum....

Until next week when my new Trigon 350 arrives!

Ha Ha.... :D

PS.

What do I fill it with? I'm starting again. The other 'arf think that she would like Discus....so I took her to the LFS, and she nearly fainted..

Now suffering from MTS.....

I've successfully mixed convicts with lots of other fish, but you have to be choosey.. Some convicts are very aggressive psychos while others are not very aggressive at all... Breeding will bring out the 'worst' in them though, so it's too bad you didn't see any signs or anything to prevent it.

I like convicts. They have quite the personality for such a little fish. But they are very very aggressive when breeding. My only breeding pair of convicts have their own tank to themselves and they try to kill the guppies that are in the tank next to them through the glass! They even beat each other up, ripping scales off and tearing fins.

Hope your next tank works out better!
