but my dads convict gets a little teratorial but other than that he doesnt touch the other fish

In general, they're not all that aggressive. It's more when they're breeding. If you have a pair, it'll end in either dead or very distressed tankmates if they can't handle themselves.

It depends what else is in your community tank. You say your dads convict only gets a little territorial, but is it fully grown?

it is fully grown but it is in a tank full of big cichlids like synspilums
