another good point is that if you have got the heater in the filter box, thats not a great place for it. You may notice most people have their heaters angled at 45 degrees so that the hot water doesnt go straight on to the thermostat (usally at the top of the heater), so if you don't mind the looks and have got a couple of sucker clips, take the heater out of the filter box and slap it on the back at a 45 degree angle. this is something i have been meaning to do

no my heater has a dial between 20 - 32 (i think) even though it is not trust-worthy! (usually have it set to 30 to get a temp of 26) the tank is 2nd hand so am not sure if its the original, but it fits perfectly in the slot in the filter box, so im guessing it is?!

I dont know on the juwel website ive seen manuals and its got the same heater as me. also in the manual i have with the fish tank it has the 1 i have. So im not sure.

Erm i might try that, however my thermostat is closer to the bottom side of my tank on the far end so when the water Circluates it should come to the right temp.

I take it you have a juwel heater? pain to play guess the temperature When you turn it right down to the - it should keep the tank around 18c right to the + would be 32 (some heaters go up more some only go to 30, with the juwel is a bit of a guess) in the middle is around 25c. Set it in the middle position and monitor your thermometer, you can always turn it up a little if its not at the right temperature

Oh i dont really mind that i thought that the + is just to make it very hot, and - is to make it slowly hot... i didnt think that it had a limit. so thats ok i guess. Thanks.

don't know if you mis-understood me. I meant the thermostat of the heater, not the thermometer in your tank. But maybe im mis-understanding you!

Oh i get you now. sorry for the confusion this is kind of how my heater looks it had so theromostat or anythink what i can see the temp. all it has is a thing at the top to move it to + and - thanks


But maybe the theromostat of the heater is built in ?

i think thats the same as mine, but mine has got little lettering ranging from 20 - 32 (every 2 degrees) so mine is usually stuck on the 28 mark

Hmm mine doesnt have no range or numbers on it just a - and + at the top lol

Hiya - yes I have one of these silly thermostats in my Juwel tank LOL - talk about confusing eh?

Well, what I had to do was guess it. I started it off just past the halfway mark as halfway must be 50 degrees. Then I left it a couple days before checking the thermometer reading - you definitely need a good, reliable thermometer in the tank if you don't have one already - by checking the thermometer I knew that I had to increase the temp slightly on the heater, so turned the knob a little further towards the + sign. I just did that (upping or downing it as necessary) until it reached the temp I wanted!

You'd think a company like that would make things a bit easier eh? Especially as many newbies buy these things and may not know what to do and just put the heater in, turn it on and think that's it.

Ok thanks, yeah its really confusing! but im not sure where to put the markers its really confusing i dont want to test it out like that becuase i have convicts in and maybe they might die
