I have a pair on convicts, they spawn ok and start to raise the young ok, but after about 2 weeks they eat all the babies. I removed the male this time, but found this morning the female must have had a midnight feast last night because this morning there is only about 10 left. Should have I removed the female after a certain time?

Maybe you should remove the parents at the time that they usually start to eat the babies.

I think just let them breed and nature take its course, hopefully, eventually they will get the jist of parent-hood.

If they have spawned less than 5 times in total, then I wouldn't worry too much as they probably still aren't quite sure of their parenting duties,
If they have spawned more times however then it may be worth syphoning/catching the fry and removing them to another tank or fry net

my friend has convicts that do the same. they have never raised any as when they want to spawn again the eat the babies.

personally I would syphon and put in a seperate tank, but you wouldn't be able to do this everytime as they have lots!

It's not you. you are not doing anything wrong. it's the fish. These things happen who knows what goes on in a fish brain. If you really want lots of convicts take the fry out as soon as they are free swimming.

Thanks everyone, it was only their second spawning I think I was just panicing a little, plus the kids got upset to discover all the babies gone. They are trying again by the look of it!
