Hey everyone,

i have no experience with africans however i have been recently been researching Neolamprologous Brevis and am actually kind of excited.
i've always felt kind of limited by the small size of my ten gallon and these fish appear to be really cool and not your standard (or first fish) 10 gallon fish.

I was just wondering how much i would have to change my tank in order to make it suitable.

i need to:
Switch my current gravel to 10 lbs of sand or fine crushed coral
I need to change the water, to a higher pH and get Cichlid buffer, salts and trace elements?
I need shells (obviously =P)

Would i need to make any changes to the filter? Its just your standard 10 gallon aquaclear

For plants i would probably only have a couple of Java ferns. I've never been really good with plants and love how hardy they are.

Fish:
1 pair or 2 pairs of Lamp Brevis (2-3 shells per fish)
- i read they have small territories but will it be too squished?

Tankmates:
An Apple Snail
The other ones i've read of are:
White cloud mountain minnows? i dont know if they can take the high pH

Livebearers because they can tolerate the pH and they will hopefully stay near the surface.

i do want tankmates for the brevis and i'm not looking to breed.

This is all just tentative thinking and i probably wouldn't begin changing anything until atleast December
(HAHA only in december because by then i could move the current fish into my twenty gallon and make a shopping trip to the states, i live in canada and everything is so much cheaper in the states :p )

Any advice, changes i should make are welcome.
