Fish Herder
I have a small peaceful cichlid (small yellow tail acei) that usually ends up in a hospital tank every 6 months for a few weeks whilst it builds up some body mass. The poor fella isnt quite feisty enough to make sure he gets plenty of food in the main cichlid tank. He is the runt if there is such a thing in the cichlid world
I recently lost my Bolivian ram and so have a medium to soft water tank on the go. an amazon biotope with neons and associated cories, tetra and barbs.. and cherry shrimp. Having had a recent clean up it is sightly harder than usual and there are few tannins ( I haven't replaced the peat media)
Instead of setting up a hospital tank this time around, would I cause any suffering of the cichlid by moving it to the softer water tank while it gets some strength up? I am not imagining it would do any physical harm to the fish. He is so skinny at the mo that anything is better than staying in with the other cichlids,
I am not worried if I lose a few baby shrimp - that was always the case before.
A slow water adjustment would be borne in mind.
