today i went to petco and they had an iridescent shark for sale for 4.99 i really wanted to get one but it said max length 36 inches!!!! my jaw dropped and i asked and yes it gets huge.... the lady said they didnt knwo why they sold them becase they get so big they can actually break the glass..In reading about them it is a very hard fish to take care of for beginners.... do you guys think they should sell these fish at such an early age at lfs???

kid walks up to his mom says " momy momy look at this cute lil shark for a our 10 gallon can we get it?" of course

i have 2 and they grow VERY slow, but still i dont think they should be sold due to the size they can reach, i seen 2 monsters at my local Big Al's which is where mine will be going when the time is right

oops .. forgot to add how much fun they are to watch when they are eating, their pigs

well I did read somewhere these guys can acherly get to 52 inch's, and thats one BIG fish.

I don't think these fish should be sold at all, I can't see them having any good live, being moved from place to place cos they get to big for someones tank, and then die not fully reatching there full prtenshaul.

well its better then letting them sit in the tanks their sold in, where they have no colour or room to swim when i can raise them better in mine where their happy and have room to swim then send them to a bigger tank when they grow to big for mine but heres some better pictures to show their potential size

keep in mind those are wild and tank raised wont reach that actual size but they'll get big non-the-less

very true. At least they get a chance at some sort of life.

and wow thats a very big fish.

The sad reality is as long as people buy them, your LFS will continue to sell them. There are many fish that are not suitable to home aquaria, but are sold because people buy them and don't know what they are getting into.

Yea, it makes me upset. The fish store could use that tank space to sell beautiful African tetras which are hard to find in a store.

Its all down to ignorance. No matter how much you know about fish you should at least research the ones you like before you buy them.
;)
