For some reason I always have guppies die in my community tank...I can't figure it out. To clear things up, its a 30 gal, penguin 350 biowheel filter, all levels are good, 80 degrees F. Tankmates are two Angelfish (~2-3 inches each), and two opaline gouramis. The guppy's seem to do well for 2-3 months, then die inexplicably. This has happened with cheap pet store guppies, LFS guppies, and even ones I've grown from fry in a smaller tank. The angels and gourami's have been in there for about 2 years now too. I'm wondering if the angels are too aggressive? If that is the case, why would it take so long for them to die then? I have a lot of plants and driftwood in there for cover, and really want a tank that has a thriving little ecosystem of fish from fry to adult. Would going with mollies be a better choice since they are bigger? Any suggestions appreciated.

angel fish are semi agreesive. in the past i have had the same problem. I had a angel-fish and a sailfin molly, the molly died, i examinded it, i noticed that its fins were eatin up so it got stuck on my filter ond died before i could save it. thats all i could think of. What type of guppies are they?

guppies generally dont do well with angelfish so you could have some murderers in your tank...
though not all angels are like this
my angel is more calm and coexists well with my guppies
but like i said...guppies and angels generally dont do well together.

Any other livebearers that could fare well against the angels?...Parting with them isn't really an option, they are part of the family now.

Larger mollies and swordtails will be fine, i use to keep angel in with my mollies, swords, platys without no problems at all.

Just remember in your lfs to ask if the mollies are kept in salt, most dont but some do and you dont want to really change what they are use to.

Does it have to be livebearers? Hatchets go well with angels, hatchets are surface dwellers.
